Captain Fidias

Simple camper spot behind the restaurant. They showed us the place very straightforwardly and gave us full access to the toilets for the night, although there are no showers. We felt obliged to have dinner there, but the cost was very high for what we ate. Very peaceful place, but I do not recommend staying more than a couple of nights.✦Translating

We stayed on the grassy area of the middle tavern. Very nice owner; we were allowed to stay for two days free of charge, in return for enjoying a good meal. Open until January. There are toilets in the tavern, closed at night. Shower on the beach. Water filling available. We were self-sufficient. No emptying facilities. Absolutely quiet out of season, with only the sound of the sea.✦Translating

We ate very well at the first tavern, with the very friendly Captain Fidias, at moderate prices. For dessert, the owner served us six small fried, typically Cretan honey balls and two Cretan raki (grappa) for free. Staying overnight was also free, and the toilets were open at night. Three tavernas, each with parking! First fish taverna, “Captain Fidias”: very friendly welcome, very good food and fish dishes at moderate prices, beautiful, clean pebble beach, very clean toilets/shower and electricity.✦Translating

The sunset at Sfinari Beach can be spectacular when clouds do not obscure the horizon. That, and the opportunity to sit in the restaurants directly on the beach, are advantages of this place. The downside is that the beach is very rocky and the three tavernas seem to have agreed on their pricing. They charge two to three times the usual prices in Crete for food of comparable quality. In return, sun loungers and parking for motorhomes are free. Oh well.✦Translating

Very warm welcome, friendly owner. Parking is no problem; it is flat, with water and toilets during the day, and overnight access is also possible if requested. You can eat there, in which case you get access to the sun loungers and parasol.✦Translating

Something for a romantic stay. We had a pig and goats visit us at breakfast. The hosts were very friendly and the food was very good, but also expensive.✦Translating
