Mountain parking, overnight unclear

We stopped twice to eat and rest a little in the afternoon after doing treks. There were quite a few motorhomes and no prohibition signs. Good place.

Given the number of motorhomes and vans that spend the night here (I foolishly followed the crowd), I don't think overnight stays are prohibited. The car parks are under construction, with no toilets available. We will see once the work is finished whether overnight parking is still possible.

The “camping interdit” sign shown in the pictures is no longer there; there are traces that it existed, but the sign itself has been removed. We spent two nights here with around 50 other vans and motorhomes, without any problems. It is a good place to stay, at just over 2,000 metres, with beautiful views and a good starting point for several walks. There are a couple of bars and a shop at the Lautaret pass.

We enjoyed a lovely evening and beautiful starry sky. No prohibition signs were visible, and there were marmots too. A highlight was the three shepherds with their large flock. This place is highly recommended. If you do not want to hike, at least walk up the two nearby hills to enjoy the fantastic view.

2 July: at the entrance there is a parking sign with stylized cars. No no-motorhome sign. Around 10 motorhomes in the car park at midday.

It has always been a magnificent place. Now it is overrun with motorhomes and vans parking everywhere. After a certain time, it feels like a racetrack. The lack of consideration has led first to a prohibition sign, and fines will probably follow. After so many years, this will be the last time we spend the night here. The marmots have disappeared.

It was an excellent spot until yesterday, June 29, 2026: a sign prohibiting motorhomes and overnight camping was installed in the afternoon.

When we arrived, a sign was just being put up saying that camping was prohibited. Perhaps this only applies during the summer holidays.

Garbage containers have just been installed, behind the visitor center. And there is a fountain on the hotel parking lot. Lots of sheep and shepherd dogs around, beware.

Magnificent place to sleep, rather quiet because it is a little away from the road but close to hiking trailheads, restaurants, and shops at the pass. Splendid panorama. Thank you to the municipality for leaving this place freely accessible! The Jardin du Lautaret nearby is well worth visiting.

Fully self-sufficient. Free access parking, which should be kept in good condition. Magnificent view and quiet. A pleasure.

Magnificent view. A cold night, but that is part of the pleasure of sleeping at the pass. Quiet; you can only hear the marmots and choughs.

Quiet, magnificent views, and the starting point for several hikes. Very well located on the edge of Écrins National Park. A national park outpost is located at Col du Lautaret. Excellent spot.

Huge, level car park; everyone should find a space here. In the evening, the mountains opposite glow in the sunset, and in the morning it takes a while for the warming sun to reach the site. We had a peaceful night and drove on in the morning.

Very quiet, plenty of room this time of year. No services but a great free spot!

Very good spot. Two other vans joined us in the late afternoon, so there was still plenty of space. Bring something warm even if the weather is nice; early in the morning it is cold (8°C), and we were lucky enough to see the first snowfall. The municipal police came by but said nothing to us.

Actually 5/5 stars. It is a beautiful place, BUT a sign at the entrance explicitly states that dogs are strictly prohibited. The site is on the edge of, or within, the national park. As guests in the country, we should respect that. Unfortunately, we had to drive on with our dogs.

Parking in a magnificent place. STOP the inconsiderate behavior. This is a car park where camping is prohibited. Observed: chaotic parking; a child's excrement thrown into nature behind the car park; a loose dog despite a flock nearby; awnings, tables, and tents. If we want to continue enjoying places like this, let us be responsible and respectful. Thank you.

Impressive. Speechless. Spectacular surroundings; you can visit the Lautaret gardens and sleep at over 2,000 metres. Be sure to bring warm clothing—even in August, it was 10 degrees at night.

We slept very well, quietly and peacefully, together with other motorhomes. Large gravel parking area. Ideal for spending the night or taking mountain routes.

The site has a great view, but it is completely overcrowded. Some people unfortunately park inconsiderately across spaces, blocking two places. There are no service facilities. Toilets are next to the restaurant.

Beautiful view, but the car park has a lot of traffic at night and is fairly noisy. Many caravans try to find a place until 1 a.m., even though it has been full since 7 p.m., waking everyone up.

Forest-track access for 200 metres. Almost full during this heatwave; people are settling in, which is not good and is dangerous for the future of the site. This is not a campsite; there needs to be turnover so everyone can enjoy the exceptional setting and the hiking trailheads. All amenities are available at the pass.

A nice extra: during the summer season, you can order bread and pastries the day before for the following day at the D'un versant à l'Autre shop.
