Unnamed road, 881, Kirkjubæjarklaustur
Been here?
An unofficial, single-space parking area lies off the road beside a lava field. Overnight camping or parking is not allowed. Access may require AWD and some ground clearance, with difficult approaches, although the spot is sheltered and partly hidden from view.

You are not allowed to camp/park overnight there. The "parking spot" is just a wound in the lava field from tourist parking there, not an official parking. It's terrible to see the picture here of a car without even as much as a toilet, so I'm sure people are just leaving their feces all around. It's disgusting, disrespectful to a country welcoming you, use designated campsites only, it's the law
The road alongside this place runs parallel to the ring road. The nearest entrance to the ring road is far too steep; the other two are manageable, but you have to drive several kilometers along a narrow, bumpy track, even with a campervan. You are sheltered, but not completely out of sight of the ring road. A really beautiful place to stay.
needs an AWD and little bit of grond clearance to get on and off the track, but great spot with great surroundings
Unfortunately, currently no longer accessible because the road has been rebuilt and raised.
