La Grande Basse, 17670, La Couarde-sur-Mer
Been here?
Small, quiet campsite in an oak forest on Île de Ré with about 100 spacious pitches and mobile homes open April 3 to September 13. The beach is just 200 metres away, and cycle paths connect to nearby villages. Pitches cost from €22 (low season) to €37 (high season) for two people with electricity; sanitary facilities are outdated but functional. Pitches lack tree separations for privacy; there is no night lighting. Note: the site is being converted to a holiday village.

Beautiful quiet campsite. Located on the cycle path and close to the beach. Staff are very kind and helpful. A little farther from the supermarket, but easy to reach by bike. Sanitary facilities are outdated but still in good condition.
Small campsite perfect for enjoying the island. The sanitary facilities are very decent and well maintained. The staff are very pleasant. Different food trucks almost every evening. Beach 5–10 minutes' walk opposite the campsite. Cycle paths behind the campsite for exploring the island by bike. A real change of scenery. Just remember to bring mosquito repellent.
Quiet campsite with friendly operators. A motorhome with two adults and electricity costs €22 in low season and €37 in high season. Large pitches, but not really separated by trees or bushes, so there is less privacy. The facilities are somewhat outdated but adequate. Good location: five minutes' walk from the beach and several villages 15–20 minutes away by bike.
Apparently the last year before upgrading this lovely, rustic, old-fashioned campsite to slow-chic nature. Period-style sanitary facilities, or nearly so, but quite sufficient—though a little more warmth in the showers would be appreciated. Pitches for every preference, shade or sun, in a dense, cool little wood. Biocoop grocery shop, bicycles for rent. Please keep this spirit! Otherwise the regulars will flee.
Top: Pitch 420 was super spacious. Very dog-friendly, wonderful beach path and beautiful beach, perfect with a dog in the evening. Hot water in the showers was excellent. Flop: Lots of cobwebs in the sanitary buildings, toilets without seats. Tip: Reserve baguettes, bicycles and dog trailers the day before!
Quiet, natural campsite, ideal for cycling tours on the beautiful island. Unfortunately, some toilets/showers were broken or closed, and some were very outdated, with cobwebs and flies. Almost no lighting at night. Fine for the price (€20 for two people with electricity per night), but next time we would choose another site with more modern facilities.
The campsite is ideally located, pitches are spacious and green, we were warmly welcomed and you can rent bicycles. Unfortunately, the sanitary facilities are very outdated. One toilet block is closed, and in the other some showers and toilets are out of order. No toilet seats. Wi-Fi is not very good. Fine if you don't want to spend too much, as we paid €14.50 for a motorhome and two people without electricity.
Very nice campsite, the cheapest on the island: €14 for one motorhome and two adults, plus €6 for electricity. Always a pleasure to come to this campsite. Sadly, this is the last year because it has been sold and will be turned into a holiday village. No more motorhomes. Very sad.
It used to be good with a reasonable price, but now it is too expensive.
We spent two nights for €28.80 without electricity; a reasonable price for a motorhome and two people at a campsite with all amenities. Pleasant new owners, thanks to the manager. Electricity is an extra €6 if you want it.
We stayed over the Easter weekend, the opening weekend for the very friendly new owners. An old-fashioned campsite without a water slide, very clean and with the expected services, surrounded by trees. Recommended.
Attention: change of owner and, above all, change in prices. A shame.
Great campsite with a pleasant welcome. Very quiet and family-friendly. Ideally located on the island for visiting all the villages by bicycle. Exit from the campsite via a path, about 800 metres, then cycle paths. €26 for two people with electricity (€0.22 per person per day tourist tax at this time).
Very pleasant little campsite. The welcome is extremely friendly. We had a sufficiently large pitch. Croissants and bread available in the morning. There is also a small grocery shop. Closing this morning until the new season.
Simple campsite with lots of trees. A 250-metre walk via a good forest path leads to a large, quiet white-sand beach. Staff are super friendly. Bread service. Sanitary facilities are kept clean but are very basic (no toilet paper, no toilet seats). We had a spacious pitch. During our stay (four nights in September), the campsite was almost completely full, mainly with elderly French guests.
We had an excellent stay at this family campsite. The owner welcomed us with a smile and guided us to the best place we wanted. His daughter is very friendly and the staff are lovely. Super-clean sanitary facilities. Small grocery shop for bread and a food truck serving good meals. Well located for cycling and the free island shuttle. Thank you very much for everything.
We have travelled France for three weeks and this is our favourite so far! Relaxed atmosphere, everything clean, excellent for beach and bicycling, and the nicest and most welcoming hosts in France! We recommend!
Older campsite with very well-maintained sanitary facilities. The toilets in particular have no light, hence one point deducted. Operator is very friendly and helpful. Good selection of evening food trucks.
Very nice older campsite with mature trees. Despite the language barrier, a very friendly welcome. The operator makes a great effort, which alone deserves five stars. Sanitary facilities are older but spotlessly clean. Pitch large enough; our motorhome is just under 8 m and we had plenty of space. Excellent proximity to the beach. In high season, €7 for electricity is unfortunately quite expensive.
We arrived completely spontaneously and were allowed to stay five nights. The campsite has charm, a great location and perfect access to the beach. The owner is very nice and friendly. Guests are regularly treated to food. There are paella evenings, mussel evenings and pizza.
We have just spent six days in a motorhome at this campsite at the end of July 2025. Nothing to criticize—quite the opposite. A very pleasant welcome from our telephone reservation to final payment. The owners are always cheerful and offer good advice. The sanitary facilities are always very clean. Some more highly rated campsites could learn from this. Thank you very much.
Traditional campsite in a very attractive, heavily wooded setting. You feel good here. The welcome is very warm. The sanitary facilities are very clean. Every evening, a food truck offers different dishes. Cycle path access behind the campsite. Located between Ars-en-Ré and Saint-Martin-de-Ré, 30 minutes by bike, and 15 minutes by bike from La Couarde-en-Ré. Beach access directly opposite the campsite, five minutes' walk.
Great camp site. Super friendly welcome. Large pitches with shade. Sanitary facilities a little aged, but spotlessly clean and well kept. A different food truck each evening; pizza , paella ect. 5 minutes walk from a lovely beach for a swim or to watch the sunset. Recommend, I'm sure we'll be back.
Welcome, kindness, peace, convenience, cleanliness—it says it all.
Very friendly welcome, even for a late arrival! The campsite is very quiet, well organized and offers a truly affordable rate for motorhomes. Recommended!
A welcoming, people-friendly campsite on such a beautiful island. Offering truly reasonable prices. Thank you!
A great welcome. Large, pleasant pitches. Very clean sanitary facilities. We will gladly return.
Very clean and convenient campsite. Direct access to the cycle paths through the campsite. Food truck every evening and lovely owners full of good advice.
THANK YOU to the whole team; we are very satisfied with our stay. Everything is perfect! What more can be said?
Very welcoming, very clean campsite, very well located for access to the cycle paths. Very professional staff.
Quiet. We stayed three nights for €57 with electricity. Easy access to the beach and cycle paths. A meal offered every evening and bread and pastries every morning. Very kind staff and clean sanitary facilities. Very hot water. Very large, marked pitch. Excellent.
Very good, welcoming campsite with a grocery shop on site. The sanitary facilities are worth noting: they are always very clean. Very easy access to the beach and cycle paths.
A small campsite that is still just as welcoming and pleasant. Nothing to complain about, and the price is perfectly reasonable.
